Digital Freedom
Some time ago, I set upon a journey to learn more about computers in order to get away from them. May sound counterproductive, and I have admittedly spent a lot of time in front of this damn screen, much more so than I would like.
However, I had a slow creeping realization that we the people have become the products and are being exploited by the modern computer. This made me relentlessly curious to understand what, why and how my computer actually operates. I was seeking for a way to flip the script back. I.e. I fully own my computer and it will 100% only do what I tell it to do.
Luckily, it turned out to be somewhat possible thanks to open source operating systems (most commonly Linux and BSD) and other open source software. I have nothing but the utmost respect towards every individual who has contributed to open source.
As of today, all my personal computing is done on NetBSD (a free, fast, secure, and highly portable Unix-like Open Source operating system) running on cheap ARM-based single board computers, and I am happy to have gained full ownership and controll over my computer.
No more nasty data mining, no more compromised bloated resource-hungry software on my machines, no more restrictions on what I can and cannot do with my computer, more digital freedom.
