cwm, just right
-
cwm (calm window manager) has brought me some peace of mind and I've really grown to love this little piece of software.
I've had my fair share of love-hate relationships with many different kind of window managers over the years. The ones I've used the most including cwm are probably: dwm, 2bwm, sowm, ctwm, twm and fvwm.
I like my window manager to be small and low memory footprint. The source code to be well designed and hackable (for tweaking and tuning). To be customizable from tip to toe with minimal runtime features. Focus on stacking over tiling. Lastly, and most importantly, doesn't get in my way.
`` Why I like cwm
cwm is the only one amongst the minimalist window managers that has managed to make me think the least. The user experience is streamlined and consistent. Cognitive load is negligible. On top of being very small, lightweight and well designed. It's software written by the guys over at OpenBSD after all.
